Condition of Health Sector in District Chakwal
The poor farmers have to spend their hard earned incomes and at times sell off their land and domestic animals for getting treatment for their families at private clinics in Chakwal. Several years of drought have made things even worse for the rural population. This has taken the poverty level a notch higher. Many a times cases that are in an advanced stage of pregnancy are referred to Rawalpindi. Experience shows that such patients never return home alive because of the long distance travel in public transport due to non-availability of ambulances. Whereas the Government has spent large amounts of money on medical infrastructures in the form of Basic Health Units but these are grossly inadequate and women healthcare in these centers is non-existent and suspect. Thus, in the absence of basic health facilities, many families depend on local midwives. Therefore the whole system of women health care is old and antiquated, leading to mother and child mortalities.

Falah Foundation Initiative
With the realization that this is the most neglected sector, FALAH FOUNDATION has taken a bold initiative and decided to setup Mother and Childcare Health (MCH) Centres in the rural areas. A total of 20 MCH Centres are planned to be set up over the next 5 years in District Chakwal. A Women Hospital is planned to be built in Chakwal City. These MCH Centres and the Women Hospital, would provide an elaborate network of complete health care facilities to the female population of District Chakwal. An efficient ambulance service would be part of the overall plan. Hopefully at the end of the project all women and children (under five) of District Chakwal would be registered beneficiaries. Our endeavor is to make this experiment a success and replicate it in other districts of Pakistan. This will also motivate the public sector clinics and hospitals to perform better. It is expected that International / National Welfare Organizations will appreciate this initiative and step forward with financial and technical support to make this bold and innovative experiment a success. Notwithstanding that FALAH FOUNDATION had very meager funds to initiate such an ambitious undertaking; it has made a humble beginning through Herculean energy of its founder members. The results are encouraging and the communities are not only appreciative of the endeavour but are actively participating in the community-based projects. These Clinics are providing general healthcare, safe delivery, immunization, laboratory, referral and ambulances services.
